Friday 23th March - Choosing the 6 which became 8!!
With the staggering figure of over 300 applicants for the Fit Factor it was a tough job for me and the panel to narrow it down to 20 for the interview stages, we then needed to lower it to a final number of 6. The stories and emotions shown during the interviews were incredible and in the end all the panel agreed we couldn’t just choose 6, so the final number became 8.
Monday 26th March - Real Radio - ringing the Active8 to say ‘your in!’
Real radio boss Jon Kirby gave me the opportunity to ring and inform the 8 successful applicants and record their reactions from the Real radio studio - we knew some would go slightly mad and we weren’t let down - Fab!
Tuesday 27th March - I speak to all 8 - focus and consistency is the key
After all the press build up, I finally had the chance to speak to all 8 together for the first time. They looked nervous but excited and a few were even out of breath from walking up a few stairs to my gym!
I had no notes and wanted to speak from the heart about what I felt they could achieve in the 12 weeks ahead. I wanted them to understand that if they follow my food plan, train well and learn to push themselves out of their comfort zone the results will be dramatic.
Feeling comfortable, gelling together and having 100% trust in me from minute one was important. I have worked as a personal trainer for over 15 years and I treat everyone according to how I feel they respond best, then the results take care of themselves.
I explained that the diet was black and white, if they eat what I suggested it would give them the healthiest and quickest weight loss possible, if they didn’t they wouldn’t lose as much - simple as that!
I then introduced Peter Mcowie a client of mine who lost 6 stones in 16 weeks. He spoke and is proof of what can be done a true inspiration. The active8 began to realise that they too could change their lives around quickly - guidance, focus, will power, consistency and a belief in themselves is the key!
Thursday 29 and Friday 30 March - Launch days
As well as a brilliant colour picture of all the active8 covering the front page of the Newcastle Journal newspaper they were live with Gary and Lisa on the breakfast show. This was a great opportunity for each individual to tell their story, they all showed real determination in their quest to turn themselves around both physically and mentally. Gary and Lisa were brilliant with all 8 and they left on a real high.
