Oli

Oli was born a baby 31 years ago in London, and he’s a true cockney but it was always his dream to get out of the rat race of the South East and move this side of the country, so he’s glad to have made the North West his home.

He got in to radio while working at Gatwick Airport making flight announcements years ago. His old boss was off to Mexico when he heard him and asked if he wanted a job. We think he felt sorry for him…

The mandatory questions were put to Oli - here's what he said:

Married, single, other?

Married to Debbie (not that one). We were together for about 80 years before we tied the knot, but I got my act together in 2009 and popped the question and she said yes! Nearly 3 years on and we’ve got a gorgeous baby girl called Willow who you’ll hear a lot more about!

Do you speak any foreign languages (apart from Cockney)?

A little bit of Italian, a very small amount of Spanish, sometimes some French but mastering English I still find a bit tricky.

What can you not live without?

Food… any type. Big fan of crispy fried shredded chilly beef off the Chinese take-away, nom nom nom.

What's your first childhood memory?

It seemed like a good idea to use the kitchen scissors to cut and create beautiful shapes in the folds of the living room curtains when I was 3. Stars, triangles & squares – it was creative and artistic. Shame mum & dad didn’t think so, it took 6 months to save for them and I was kept in my room for; I don’t know how long? It was like a prison in there so I climbed up my book case to get attention. It fell on me. I was a really bad toddler.

What do you watch on TV?

I love ‘Lost’, and at some point I will dedicate another portion of my life to watching it all again. The same with the series ‘24’. I’m a bit movie buff and I like Eastender’s & those TV shows about big stuff like ships and skyscrapers. Oh and planes (Bit of a geek)

When you're away from Real Radio, what do you do?

I love BBQs. I’ve got a big chefs hat I wear when I’m cooking and massive BBQ tools. I love going to explore new places. There’s still loads of the North West I need to see.

Willow was born with a rare genetic condition so Debbie and I spend A LOT of time at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. It’s almost like a second home for us! Sometimes we have stay over, but the most amazing Cantonese restaurant is outside on Oxford Road so I still manage to satisfy my crispy fried chilly beef cravings!

That just about covers it. If you want to ask more questions or just say hi, fill in the boxes below and hit send!
