The case has featured on Crimewatch and the police have received more than 12 hundred calls but so far no arrests have been made.

Police investigating the disappearance of Claudia Lawrence say they are looking for a man she spent the night with, two days before going missing.

The detective in charge of the investigation says it's "critical" they speak to this man - describing the development as "extremely hot intelligence".

Background to the case

Claudia Lawrence, a chef, was last seen on Wednesday 18th March 2009 after leaving work at York University.

The investigation team is still trying to establish Claudia's exact movements from 8.30pm on Wednesday 18 March when she was last in contact with her parents via telephone from her home.

Claudia was due to walk the three miles to work on Thursday 19 March 2009 for a shift beginning at 6am. But she never turned up for work on that day.

Despite the intensive police search effort in and around the Heworth and York University area, and detailed enquiries further a field, Claudia's disappearance remains unexplained and is being treated as suspected murder.

Her mobile phone - a Silver Samsung D900 - and blue Karrimor rucksack in which she carried her chef's whites, have still yet to be located.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is urged to contact the incident room on 0845 60 60 24 7.

Information can also be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.

Crimestoppers is offering a £10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Claudia's disappearance.

Statement from Claudia's mother Joan Lawrence (courtesy of the Malton and Pickering Mercury)

"I find it hard to believe we are a year down the line from the date which will be in my mind for the rest of my life. I can't begin to describe the feelings that went through my mind when we received the call that Claudia had disappeared. I was numb at first, stunned, this sort of thing happens to other people. You don't expect it to happen to you and your family.

"I keep going every day, there is always something that needs doing. The support from family, friends and local people is wonderful, it's a huge comfort to me and I am so grateful. The pain never goes away, the emptiness inside me. The reminders are all over my flat, presents, notes, cards, photographs. Many is the time I come across something by accident and stop and shed a tear.

"I have now to find a way forward once these painful anniversaries are past.. It must be kept in the public eye and I shall do my best to do that. We can't let people forget her - someone, somewhere knows something."
